What is a Focus Group
A focus group is a research method used to gather feedback from a group of participants on specific topics of cases. in legal focus groups, participants are asked to review and discuss parts of a case (such as evidence or arguments) in a more informal setting than a mock trial. These sessions can be used by attorneys to test different case themes or strategies with potential jurors before the full trial.
Purpose
Legal focus groups allow attorneys to explore specific issues or themes in a case, gaining insight into how different jurors might react to certain arguments or pieces of evidence. By hearing your opinions and feedback, attorneys can adjust their approach to better connect with a real jury.
Juror Rule
As a focus group participant, you will engage in discussions and share your reactions to case elements. You might be asked about your impressions of certain evidence, which side of the case seems more convincing, or how you feel about key witnesses or testimonies. Your feedback helps the legal team understand the strengths and weaknesses of their case.
What is a Mock Trial
A mock trial is a simulated court case that allows attorneys to practice presenting their arguments and gather feedback before the actual trial. During a mock trial, jurors are selected to listen to both sides of a legal case, just like in a real courtroom. The attorneys present evidence, question witnesses, and make closing arguments, and the jurors deliberate to reach a verdict.
Purpose
Mock trials help attorneys understand how real jurors might react to different aspects of the case, such as the arguments presented, witness testimonies and evidence. The feedback from jurors can guide the legal time in refining their arguments or addressing weak points before going forward.
Juror Role
As a mock juror, you’ll listen carefully to the case, just as you would in a real trial. Afterward, you’ll share your opinions and thoughts about the evidence, witnesses, and overall case, which will help the legal team prepare for the real trial.
